It Made Home Movies Possible<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In the 1920s, there wasn\u2019t a film format that was widely available for people to use to record their life at home \u2013 that luxury was kept for film professionals and people with money.<\/p>\n

Film making was an incredibly expensive activity; not only did cameras cost a fortune to buy, it was also quite costly to have the film developed and display them.<\/p>\n

However, when more people started to show an interest in filming their lives, more accessible cine formats were created to make home movies available to a wider customer base!<\/p>\n

It Allowed People to Play Films at Home<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Previously, the only films that people would have been exposed to would have been in cinemas and picture houses, but with the introduction of cine film, people were given the opportunity to take films home and have a \u201cplay at home\u201d version.<\/p>\n

This was a huge step forward for the film industry, especially as it brought in more money for them and gave people something to watch in the comfort of their own home. It\u2019s hard to imagine a time where we couldn\u2019t watch our favourite films at our leisure, but it did happen!<\/p>\n

It was this \u201ctake home\u201d attitude which kick-started more people starting to record their own home movies, especially at events such as weddings.<\/p>\n

It Was Efficient<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Unlike many of the bigger formats of the time, cine film was incredibly efficient. In 1932, the 8mm format was created and used approximately a quarter of the film that 16mm film did, making the money that filmmakers spent on cine film go that little bit further.<\/p>\n

It was 1932 when home movies became more than just something that people with money could do, and it was mainly down to the fact that this 8mm cine film became an affordable option for more people. 8mm became the household standard for home film, with 16mm only ever really being used for commercial, educational and industrial uses.<\/p>\n
