Trending in a Cinema Near You: Superheroes

There’s no doubt that the age of the superhero is upon us. The superhero (and sometimes anti-hero) trend has gained some serious momentum over the last couple of years as Marvel has burst onto the scene with more men and women in capes and super strength suits than you can shake Thor’s hammer at.

With so many sequels, prequels and impending franchises flying around, it would be easy to expect that not all of them are going to turn out that great, but with such outrageous movie budgets behind them, they seem to be doing just fine and packing out cinemas worldwide.

So let’s take a look at some of the superhero films that are to hit the big screen later this year. February already started off with a bang with a particularly foul-mouthed and, at one point, tiny-handed Ryan Reynolds playing the highly anticipated protagonist of Deadpool, so let’s hope the following hero flicks will be just as successful.

Captain America: Civil War

Don’t you just love it when superheroes come together? The new Captain America will do just that, but this time they’re clashing. The film will explore a feud between Iron Man and Captain America which could spell trouble for the Avengers, and we hope it does so that we get to see some marvellous Marvel action!

Due to hit cinemas April 29th this year, we’ll see characters such as Ant-Man played by Paul Rudd, the newly Marvel morphed Spiderman played by Tom Holland and the return of Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow.

Suicide Squad

So far, unconventional superheroes are faring quite well this year as Deadpool strutted his way to the top of the box office in red spandex. Suicide Squad might not be too far behind, although due to be released August 5th, the movie tells of the release of imprisoned super-villains, a decision warranted by a secret government agency called A.R.G.U.S to undertake a dangerous mission in exchange for shorter prison sentences.

The cast will include performances from Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Will Smith as Deadshot, and Jared Leto as The Joker.

X-Men: Apocalypse

The film is set to hit the big screen on May 19th and will show the world’s first mutant, Apocalypse, played by Oscar Isaac who wishes to render the world free of non-mutants. This of course calls for the X-Men to unite in a bid to put a stop to his diabolical plan, although because Apocalypse is pretty much immortal and invincible, this could prove to be a bit of a challenge.

Part of the team that are to save mankind from total meltdown will include Raven played by Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, and James McAvoy as Charles Xavier.

No doubt these films will inspire and awe audiences later this year with such a vast selection of starring roles. Even though superhero films have been the flavour of the last couple of years, the classics are still stacked on our DVD shelves, waiting to be watched time and time again. At Cine2DVD we specialise in converting other classic movies – your home movies. If you have old format films tucked away in your attic, then we can transfer them to DVD so they can take pride of place within your DVD collection.
